The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority hiked its estimate of the number of visitors to the city this year from 35.5 million people to 36.7 million people, citing stronger than expected visitation numbers during the first five months of the year.
Through May, some 14.9 million people visited Las Vegas, an 8.3 percent increase from the 13.7 million visitors logged for the first five months of 1999, the LVCVA said. Room inventory has grown 5.3 percent over 1999, to 121,066 rooms citywide. The new Aladdin will add more than 2,600 rooms when it opens mid-August.
