LV hospital operator’s profit up slightly

KING OF PRUSSIA, Pa -- Universal Health Services Inc. reported a second quarter profit of $23.3 million or 76 cents per share, up from $23 million or 71 cents in the year-ago quarter as it reduced the number of shares outstanding.
Revenue increased from $513 million to $524.8 million for the owner of the Valley Health System in Las Vegas, which includes Valley, Desert Springs and Summerlin hospitals.
Universal, owner of 70 medical facilities in 20 states, said the 1999 quarterly results included a one-time gain of $3.1 million.
