Letter: Leftover signs are worst part of yard sales
Monday, July 24, 2000 | 9:54 a.m.
First, let me start off by saying that I love yard sales and frequent them on a regular basis, especially on weekends. I think the bargains you can find are terrific, and I enjoy the bartering that occurs for the item I just gotta have.
But if I had one comment to make to the folks that have these yard sales, it would be to remove your signs and posters fastened with duct tape, scotch tape, coat hangers, and every other method known to man (or woman) on how to attach signs or posters to a light or telephone pole. Also, remove your boxes held down with bricks and rocks or not secured at all so that they can be blown all over the neighborhood. Frequently we have these advertising items removed weeks later or not at all throughout our neighborhood.
In addition, light poles and telephone poles in our neighborhood carry the ugly scars of leftover tape, signs never removed, piles of rocks and bricks at major cross streets that were previously used to secure the box that was used for the direction arrow to their front door.
I guess what I am trying to say is, if folks are going to conduct a yard sale, please be considerate of the rest of the neighborhood and take the time to leave the streets the way you found them.
