Las Vegas Valley hit with trace of rain
Monday, July 24, 2000 | 11:15 a.m.
Pockets of clouds drizzling slight amounts of rain moved across Henderson and east Las Vegas Sunday afternoon, but it was only enough to register as a trace.
Las Vegas has been without a measurable rainfall for 137 days, but a bank of clouds moving from south to north moved along just east of Interstate 15 around 2:30 p.m. The local record for days without measurable rainfall is 150, according to the National Weather Service.
The clouds left only a trace of moisture at the weather service's official measuring post at McCarran International Airport, but between one- and six-tenths of an inch of precipitation were reported by residents in parts of east Las Vegas and Green Valley.
A Nevada Power spokesman said the storm knocked out power to a small number of homes and street lights for a short period of time.
