Fire consumes 1,000 acres north of Reno
Monday, July 24, 2000 | 10:18 a.m.
Flames came close to scattered homes in the Red Rock area, but none were damaged.
The fire broke out around 4 p.m. Sunday and spread quickly through heavy brush and cheatgrass.
About 200 firefighters battled the flames on the ground. They were assisted from the air by four air tankers and a helicopter.
The cause was under investigation but officials said it was started by people.
Firefighters expected to have the blaze fully contained on Monday.
