Authorities also were trying to determine if the same suspect may have been responsible for a similar attack on another woman earlier this month.
The assault on Sunday occurred around 3 a.m. Police said a 22-year-old woman had parked her car in a parking lot at West Second Street and West Street when she was approached from behind and knocked to the ground.
The woman was raped in the parking lot and robbed. The suspect then fled on foot.
Another woman was attacked from behind and raped earlier this month by a suspect with a similar description in the area of Fourth Street and Stoker, detectives said.
The suspect was described as a black man in his 40s, 5-foot-7, with a skinny build and a graying, full beard.
He was last seen wearing a long-sleeve white, button-down shirt and black pants.
