Two Las Vegans among wildlife board appointees

CARSON CITY -- Gov. Kenny Guinn has named two men from Las Vegas and one from Reno to the nine-member state Wildlife Commission that oversees hunting and fishing policies in Nevada.

John Moran Jr., a long-time lawyer in Las Vegas, will succeed Marlene Kirch of Las Vegas representing the public on the commission.

Moran has served as chairman of the Colorado River Commission, was a member of the Las Vegas Beautification Committee and also a member of the Las Vegas Civil Service Board of Trustees. He has practiced law since 1975.

Tommy Ford, a Las Vegas contractor, replaces Jack Coons, a Henderson firefighter, as the sportsman's representative on the board.

Ford has been a member of the Foundation for North American Wild Sheep, Nevada Bighorns Unlimited, Trout Unlimited, Nevadans Against Wilderness, Nevadans For Wilderness, Ducks Unlimited and the Mule Deer Foundation.

The governor also appointed David McNinch of Reno to succeed David Jickling to represent conservation on the board. McNinch has been a public health environmentalist with the Washoe County District Health Department since 1990.

The commission will hold its next meeting in Ely next weekend.
