Headline: McCarran Hits Adlai On Red Infiltration
Story: Sen. Pat McCarran, in an apparent slap at Gov. Adlai E. Stevenson of Illinois, said tonight Communism's greatest threat to this country "is from within our own borders." The Nevada Democrat, who heads the senate internal security subcommittee, said "we cannot escape the realization that our first and greatest concern must be the elimination of subversive elements from our very midst." Stevenson said in a speech Monday that Republican leaders are trying to tell the country the primary danger from Communism lay from within. He asked why "politicians who scream loudest about Communists in America have fought hardest against every democratic program to fight Communism itself."
Headline: McCarthy To Speak In Vegas
Story: Sen. Joseph McCarthy of Wisconsin will address a Las Vegas audience at War Memorial auditorium in the City Hall building, one week from tonight -- Oct. 13, it was announced yesterday by Mrs. Adelaide Deutsch, president of the Women's Republican club which is sponsoring his appearance here. ... An old-fashioned torchlight parade down Fremont street is set for 7:30, with the speaking program at War Memorial set for 8 p.m. ... The Wisconsin senator will speak on "Corruption and Communism."
Headline: Eisenhower Sweeps Nation: Nevada Goes Republican To Join Nation In Tide of Smashing Win
Story: Dwight D. Eisenhower rolled up a smashing landslide victory over Adlai E. Stevenson today to give the nation its first Republican president in 20 years. Nevada went Republican in a presidential election for the first time in 24 years, and voted right again for the 11th consecutive time when it gave its three electoral votes to General Eisenhower by a margin of nearly two to one. Unofficial and incomplete returns from 296 of the state's 353 precincts showed Eisenhower leading Stevenson 26,377 votes to 15,800. Stevenson conceded defeat at 1:45 a.m. EST.

Story: President Truman went to bed about 9:30 p.m. (EST) without commenting on the election returns. Acting White House Press Secretary Roger Tubby said that the president had not heard or seen any of the early returns.
Headline: Mickey Mantle May Miss Part of Series
Story: An Army draft physical may pull New York Yankee outfielder Mickey Mantle out of the World Series if games extend past Sunday, Oct. 5. The 22-year-old Ottawa county, Okla., ballplayer has been ordered to appear in Oklahoma City Oct. 6 for his third Army physical.
