Niggli out as chairman, CEO of Sierra Pacific Resources
Friday, July 21, 2000 | 4:18 a.m.
Sierra Pacific Resources on Friday said Michael Niggli resigned as chairman and chief executive to pursue other opportunities.
Sierra Pacific is the parent company of Nevada Power Co. in Las Vegas and Sierra Pacific Power Co. of Reno, the state's main electric utilities.
Sierra Pacific said it's searching for a CEO.
In the meantime, Steve Rigazio will be chief operating officer. The chairman of the board will be James R. Donnelley, who currently is vice chairman of the board.
Niggli's surprise resignation came one day after state regulators approved a settlement between the utility and the state that will raise power rates in Las Vegas and clear the way for deregulation of the state's electric industry.
