Letter: Coach had an out
Friday, July 21, 2000 | 4:27 a.m.
I am writing to express my dissatisfaction with Dean Juipe's July 19 column "Coaches Have All the Advantages."
I agree college athletes should be granted some impunity on inter-institutional transfer. (There is, however, to be considered the threat of players transferring willy-nilly.) But using fabrications about Matt Doherty is not fair to him or the two universities involved, nor does it help convince readers that the system indeed has problems.
You ignore the fact that Doherty exercised a clause in his contract allowing him to move to UNC, specifically.
That means Matt Doherty did not break his contract with Notre Dame.
