Africa on film

The Ubuntu Video Club, a project of the California Newsreel's Library of African Cinema, will feature a Saturday film series from 10 a.m.-noon beginning Saturday with "Pieces d' Identites," an award-winning, light-hearted modern fairy tale. The films are written, directed and produced by Africans. Admission is free. Ages 18 and older only. Call 229-4800.

Summer dance

Las Vegas Civic Ballet Association and the City of Las Vegas Leisure Services offer afternoon ballet, tap and jazz summer classes at the Reed Whipple Cultural Center, 821 Las Vegas Blvd North. Art exhibits

The Nevada State Museum and Historical Society presents the Silver Ladies in Golden Splendor an exhibit of governors wives from 1864 to the present. The exhibit runs through Sept. 4 at 700 Twin Lakes Drive. Also being exhibited is Exploring the Night Sky Over Southern Nevada by John H. African rhythms

Master drummer Obo Addy and Kukrudu will perform at 8 p.m. today at the Sammy Davis Jr. Festival Plaza at Lorenzi Park. Cold readings

Choreographers

Today is the deadline for interested choreographers have until today to enter choreographic proposals for the "Holiday Collage 2000," which will be held Nov. 30-Dec. 3 at the Reed Whipple Cultural Center. The event features the Las Vegas Youth Ballet Company and is sponsored by the Cultural and Community Affairs Division of the City of Las Vegas Department of Leisure Services and the Las Vegas Civic Ballet Association. Voices for Verdi
