State jobless rate 3.5 percent in June, just over 1 million working

A Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation report Thursday notes the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate, up slightly from 3.4 percent in May, compares with a national June rate of 4 percent and a 5.2 percent rate in neighboring California.
June unemployment in the metropolitan Las Vegas area was 4.3 percent, up from 3.4 percent in May. In the Reno area, the rate was 2.8 percent in June, up from 2.4 percent a month earlier.
June unemployment was 4.3 percent in the Elko-Eureka areas and in Carson-Douglas-Lyon-Storey areas.
Month-to-month unemployment comparisons weren't available for other Nevada counties. But an analysis for the April-June quarter showed jobless rates for outlying counties including: Churchill, 7.4 percent; Douglas, 3.9 percent; Humboldt, 4.9 percent; and White Pine, 3.6 percent.
Statewide, mining and finance-insurance-real estate jobs were steady between May and June; manufacturing was up 200; transportation-utilities was up 500; trade was up 2,100; the casino-related service industry was up 4,100; and government hiring was up 8,700 as schools let out.
