James A. Anderson

James A. Anderson, 78, of Las Vegas died July 11 in a local hospital. He was born Jan. 23, 1922, in Adair, Iowa. A resident for 11 years, he was a railroad employee for 47 years and a World War II Navy veteran.

He is survived by two sisters, Susan Rose of Las Vegas and Lib Houchin of Atlantic, Iowa.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday in Bunkers Mortuary, 925 Las Vegas Blvd. North. Burial will be private.

Grace Ethel Brashear

Grace Ethel Brashear, 88, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in Las Vegas. She was born July 23, 1911, in Cleveland. A resident for 38 years, she was a retired medical assistant and a member of American Assistant Medical Association.

She is survived by two sons, James Staite of Las Vegas and Douglas G. Staite of Heritage, Tenn.; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Friday in Eden Vale Memorial Park. Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St., is handling arrangements.

The family suggests donations to Alcoholics Anonymous.

Gary L. Colvin

Gary L. Colvin, 62, of Las Vegas died Wednesday in Las Vegas. He was born Aug. 12, 1937, in Bedford, Ind. A resident for 28 years, he was a security officer at Lady Luck and University Medical Center.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn; two sons, Gary L. "Sammy" Colvin of Jamestown, Ohio, and Tony Colvin of Indiana; three daughters, Lisa Marie Colvin of Florida and Kim Colvin and Karen Colvin, both of Ohio; and one grandson, Graham Colvin of Las Vegas.

Valley Memorial Crematory, 745 W. Sunset Road, No. 16, Henderson, is handling arrangements.

Frederick P. Compagnon Jr.

Frederick P. Compagnon Jr., 77, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in a local hospital. He was born Sept. 20, 1922, in Los Angeles. A resident for seven years, he was a Navy shipfitter chief, World War II and Korean War veteran and judge for the American Kennel Club.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen; one son, James F. Compagnon of Escondido, Calif.; one sister, Betty Almany of Irvine, Calif.; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Visitation is scheduled 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Friday in Palm Mortuary, 7400 W. Cheyenne Ave. Graveside services will follow at 1:30 p.m. in Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Boulder City.

Peggy Ann Corradini

Peggy Ann Corradini, 67, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in a local hospice. A business teacher, she was born Aug. 6, 1932, in Kalamazoo, Mich.

She is survived by her companion, Alberta Balas of Las Vegas; and two brothers, Donald Corradini of Michigan and Richard Corradini of Florida.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday in the Nathan Adelson Hospice chapel, 4141 S. Swenson St. Burial will be private. Bunkers Mortuary, 925 Las Vegas Blvd. North, is handling arrangements.

Ruth R. Dillon

Ruth R. Dillon, 91, of Las Vegas died Sunday in a local hospital. She was born Oct. 6, 1908, in Velerde, N.M. A resident for 4 1/2 years, she was a boarding house manager, a retired Rio Grande Railroad employee of 20 years and a member of the Women's Auxiliary of the LDS Church in Price, Utah.

She is survived by one daughter, Angelina Martinez of Las Vegas; one son, Joe Rendon of Grand Junction, Colo.; two brothers, Raymond Garcia and Ricky Garcia, both of New Mexico; 15 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation was scheduled one hour prior to 11 a.m. services today in the Viking and Sandhill LDS Church. Burial will be in Utah.

Laurette B. Gallup

Laurette B. Gallup, 92, of Las Vegas died Wednesday in Las Vegas. She was born Nov. 2, 1907, in Worcester, Mass. A resident for 40 years, she was a retired supervisor for the Department of Energy, a Marine Corps veteran and a member of the Senior Club of the Young at Heart at Our Lady of Las Vegas Catholic Church.

She is survived by one sister, Irene Latour of Las Vegas; and two brothers, Andre Baril of Laughlin and Maurice Baril of Santa Rosa, Calif.

A memorial service will be 9 a.m. Monday in Our Lady of Las Vegas Catholic Church, 3050 Alta Drive. Palm Mortuary, 1600 S. Jones Blvd., is handling arrangements.

Marie G. Griffin

Marie G. Griffin, 53, of Pahrump died Saturday in Las Vegas. She was born Feb. 26, 1947, in New York. A resident for 14 years, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by her husband, Larry; two daughters, Patricia Mann of Pahrump and Lisa Griffin of San Diego; two sons, William Whynkoop of New York and Michael Griffin of San Diego; one brother, Charles Whynkoop of New York; and four grandchildren.

Calvin Kazuo Hokama

Calvin Kazuo Hokama, 38, of Las Vegas died Saturday in Las Vegas. He was born Oct. 14, 1961, in Gardena, Calif. A resident for 27 years, he was a hotel maintenance engineer.

He is survived by his parents, George and Sally Hokama of Las Vegas; and his grandmother, Tomi Hokama of Los Angeles.

Services were scheduled at 1 p.m. today in Bunkers Mortuary, 925 Las Vegas Blvd. North, followed by a private burial.

Grover C. Hill Jr.

Grover C. Hill Jr., 79, of Las Vegas died Saturday in a local health care center. He was born Sept. 7, 1920, in Pelahatchie, Miss. A resident for more than 50 years, he was a retired owner-operator of a shoe concession and a World War II Army veteran.

He is survived by one daughter, Paula Horton, and one sister, Evelyn Grayson, both of Las Vegas; and two grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 3-7 p.m. today in Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St. Services will be 11 a.m. Friday in Palm Chapel, Main. Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Friday in Palm Memorial Park.

Sal J. Iacono

Sal J. Iacono, 92, of Las Vegas died Sunday in Las Vegas. He was born June 10, 1908, in New York City. A resident for 25 years, he was a film developer at Pathe Motion Pictures.

He is survived by three sons, Vincent Iacono and Frank Potenza of New York and Jimmy Kimmel of Tempe, Ariz.; three daughters, Chippy Potenza of Las Vegas, Joan Kimmel of Tempe and Fran Iacono of New York; two sisters, Ruth Umile and Celia Russo, both of New York; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 3-7 p.m. today in Bunkers Mortuary, 925 Las Vegas Blvd. North. Additional visitation is scheduled 2:30-4:30 p.m. Friday followed by a 5:30 p.m. rosary Friday in Christ the King Church, 4925 S. Torrey Pines Drive. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday in Christ the King Church. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens.

Barbara A. Kelsay

Barbara A. Kelsay, 64, of Las Vegas died Saturday in Las Vegas. She was born July 14, 1936, in Bisbee, Ariz. A resident for 30 years, she was a homemaker and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

She is survived by her husband, Nathan B. III; five sons, Richard Hoff of Alto, N.M., William Hoff of Santa Rosa, Calif., Kenneth Kelsay of Okinawa, Japan, and Kevin Kelsay and Kerry Kelsay, both of Las Vegas; her mother, Elise Wohlschlagel of Garden Grove, Calif., and one brother, Fred Wohlschlagel of Palm Desert, Calif.; and eight grandchildren.

A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday in Masonic Lodge 32, 622 E. Charleston Blvd. Palm Mortuary, 7400 W. Cheyenne Ave., is handling arrangements.

Saburo "Shap" Kuwahara, 74, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in a local hospital. He was born July 28, 1925, in Los Angeles. A resident for eight years, he was a retired produce truck driver and a World War II Army veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Sumiko; one daughter, Kary Kuwahara-Willis of Pasadena, Calif.; one brother, Jim Kuwahara of Gardena, Calif.; and one sister, Fuji Kuwahara of Anaheim, Calif.

Visitation is scheduled one hour prior to 11 a.m. services Saturday in Palm Mortuary, 7400 W. Cheyenne Ave.

Norvin LaMotte Sr.

Norvin LaMotte Sr., 78, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in a local hospice. He was born July 26, 1921, in Lobdell, La. A resident for 11 years, he was a retired deputy sheriff for Los Angeles County and a World War II Army veteran.

He is survived by two daughters, Kim LaMotte-Malone of Henderson and Darlene Torregano of Diamond Bar, Calif.; three sons, Norvin LaMotte Jr. of Las Vegas, Gregory LaMotte of Highland, Calif., and Eric LaMotte of Carson, Calif.; one sister, Edmae Butler of Baton Rouge, La.; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Jerry Duane Morlan

Jerry Duane Morlan, 62, of Las Vegas died Wednesday in a local care center. He was born May 29, 1938, in Pueblo, Colo. A resident for 22 years, he was a retired administrative specialist for the Clark County School District, a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary and board of directors of the Indian Center of Las Vegas.

He is survived by his wife, Kathleen Marie; two daughters, Shannon Sleeper of Arizona and Sherry Morlan of California; his mother, Marie Morlan of Las Vegas; one sister, Kowana Capagli of Milpitas, Calif.; three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday in Spring Valley Baptist Church, 3135 S. Rainbow Blvd. Burial will be private. Palm Mortuary, 1600 S. Jones Blvd., is handling arrangements.

Edgar Newton, 82, of Henderson died Wednesday in a local hospital. He was born Sept. 29, 1917, in Hartford, Conn. A resident for two years, he was a retired pipefitter.

He is survived by his wife, Catherine; two sons, Robert Newton of Greeley, Colo., and John Newton of Phoenix; one daughter, Kathleen Smith of Henderson; and seven grandchildren.

Tom Pappas, 73, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in Las Vegas. He was born Jan. 26, 1927, in Los Angeles. A resident for 10 years, he was a retired appliance service technician and World War II Army veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Beverly; one son, Steve Pappas of Las Vegas; and two brothers, Angelo Pappas of Roseville, Calif., and James Pappas of Hemet, Calif.

Lucille E. Reed, 77, of Valdosta, Ga., died Sunday in Valdosta. She was born Aug. 16, 1922, in Omaha, Ill. A former Las Vegas resident for 33 years from 1954 to 1987, she was a homemaker and a member of Eastern Star Southgate Chapter 18 of Las Vegas.

She is survived by two sons, Ronald Hardin of Indianapolis and Ken Reed of Henderson; one sister, Marie Harrington of Phoenix; one brother, Leland Harrington of Omaha; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Visitation will continue until 7 p.m. today and 9 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. services Friday in Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St. Palm Mortuary, 800 S. Boulder Highway, Henderson, is handling arrangements.

Manuel Martin Rocha

Manuel Martin Rocha, 53, of Las Vegas died Sunday in a local hospital. A resident for 23 years, he was born Dec. 3, 1946, in Texas.

He is survived by one son, Frankie; three daughters, Angela, Irene and Charlotte; his mother, Elvira; one brother, Oscar; six sisters, Maria, Luisa, Rosie, Isabel, Minnie and Carmen; and 11 grandchildren.

A memorial service was scheduled at 11 a.m. today in Desert Memorial Cremation and Burial Society, 1111 Las Vegas Blvd. North, followed by graveside services in Woodlawn Cemetery.

Vincent 'Chickie' Russo

Vincent "Chickie" Russo, 74, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in a local care center. He was born Nov. 10, 1925, in Buffalo, N.Y. A resident for 24 years, he was a retired taxi driver and World War II Navy veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Beatrice; one son, Jim Russo of Las Vegas; one daughter, Jean Russo of Niagara Falls, N.Y.; one brother, Victor Russo of Los Angeles; one sister, Sarah Villa of Buffalo; and two grandchildren.

He is survived by one daughter, Jennifer Holmes, two sons, Kevin Holmes and Tavist Sanders, and his mother, Toni Sanders, all of Las Vegas; four sisters, Antionette Brooks-Smith, Pamela Burns and Clyda Sanders, all of Las Vegas, and Vickie Sanders of North Las Vegas; two brothers, Cordell Sanders of North Las Vegas and Kennedy Sanders of Las Vegas; and four grandchildren.

Chay B. Stevens, 20, of North Las Vegas died Tuesday. He was born May 14, 1980, in St. Joseph, Mich. A resident for one year, he was a general laborer.

He is survived by his parents, LaWanda and Lamonte Stevens of North Las Vegas; one sister, LaWanda Necole Stevens-Purnell of Las Vegas; and his two grandfathers, John Stevens of Pittsburgh and Verdell McBeth of Chicago.

Kenneth Stewart

Kenneth Stewart, 64, of Las Vegas died Monday in Las Vegas. He was born Feb. 18, 1936, in Stafford, Ariz. A resident for 54 years, he was a truck welder and was a retired member of Teamsters Local 631.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie.

He is survived by one daughter, Regina Stewart-Molnar of Cedar City, Utah; one stepdaughter, Sharon Henderson of Redding, Calif.; one stepson, Larry Beaird of Woodstock, Conn.; one sister, Dorothy Jean McCullough of Lemitar, N.M.; and one grandchild.

Mercedes R. Zurita

Mercedes R. Zurita, 83, of North Las Vegas died Thursday in Las Vegas. She was born July 27, 1916, in Mexico. A resident for 44 years, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by three daughters, Lourdes Hungar of Mexico, Martha Moorer of North Las Vegas and Angelica Gomez of Tennessee; three sons, Benny Montano of Las Vegas, Isidro Montano of Mexico and Vincent Montano of Utah; 17 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
