Peter Benton's golf column appears weekly.
Apro-amateur invitational played last week under idyllic conditions at the Red Rock Country Club saw Rio Secco's Ken Wright and his team of Dean Kajioka, Frank Campagna and Dave Coley win the one best-ball gross and one best-ball net of foursome with a score of 130.
Also coming in with 130 but losing on a card countback was the foursome of Dale Akridge (South Shore) and partners Chuck Mabli, Ken Gardner and Jerry Kring.
Jeff Jones (Paiute), Andy Gotelli, Jason McIntire and Silas Philips garnered third spot with a 131.
In the individual pro sweeps, Akridge prevailed with his 1-under 71. Kris Klabik (Red Rock) and Desert Willow's Shane Sanchez tied for second with 73s, while fourth spot went to Carl Seelman (LVCC) and his 74.
Seelman also won closest-to-the-pin honors on the third, eighth and 13th holes, with fellow LVCC pro John Creaney coming closest on the 15th hole.
Amateur honors went to Larry Koentopp, Lee Stickney, Richard Wagerman and Rob Sparks.
Sherry Jackson and Sue DeFrancesco, also from Las Vegas, placed second at 143 followed by the Peggy Young-Rayleen Cudworth pairing at 145.
Mindy Sipin and Barbara Berry from Northern Nevada won low net with a 123. In a card playoff for second place, the team of Claudia Chesney and Mimi Davis prevailed, edging out the teams of Debbie Brander-Hannah Zive and Janet Ford- Cindy Williams, who scored 124s.
