Monday, July 17, 2000 | 9:48 a.m.
Police say the vehicle was traveling at a high speed when it ran off the road and struck a large rock, which caused the pickup to roll over.
The driver, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected and died at the scene. He was identified as David Uribe, 19.
His passenger, Miguel Presidio-Neri, also was not wearing a seat belt and was taken to Washoe Medical Center for treatment.
Toxicology reports are pending, but initial reports suggest that alcohol may have been involved.
Another one-vehicle accident later Sunday took the life of Jerry McSkimming, 43, of Reno, whose car rolled down an embankment after failing to negotiate a curve on Red Rock Road. McSkimming was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected.
