LV resort confirms plan to phase in operations

Aladdin Gaming said construction on all 2,600 of its Aladdin hotel rooms will be complete when the Las Vegas Strip resort opens Aug. 17.
But just 1,500 of the rooms will initially be available for occupancy as operations are phased in over several days to break in the hotel staff, spokesman Lynn Holt said Friday.
"We're doing it as a ramp-up procedure," Holt said.
Major operations opening along with the casino are five restaurants, the pool and the convention center; along with the separately owned Desert Passage retail mall, Holt said. The 7,000-seat Aladdin Theatre for the Performing Arts opens Aug. 19.
Holt said three components of the $1.4 billion megaresort are due to open a few months after the main opening. They are its 1,200-seat showroom, its spa and a P.F. Chang's restaurant.
A Bloomberg News story last week quoted analysts as saying the Aladdin opening will likely resemble last year's Venetian opening, in which many customers initially stayed away because significant construction was under way when it opened.
