Letter: Gaming industry already paying its fair share
Monday, July 17, 2000 | 9:08 a.m.
Nevada's dramatic growth, both economic and in terms of population, is in large part due to your state's tax structure. If Neal's petition is presented to the Legislature and passed, Nevada will be on the slippery slope to becoming a high tax state. The result will be a significant slowdown of your economic engine and the need for even more taxes to compensate for lost business, especially in areas away from the Las Vegas Strip.
Joe Neal is just plain wrong. Gaming is paying its fair share, and Nevada receives tremendous benefits, directly and indirectly, from the state's principal industry.
