Construction season begins in earnest for U.S. 395

Monday, July 17, 2000 | 9:48 a.m.

People whose commute takes then on U.S. 395 from Minden to Carson City are about to learn that winter is very much over.

Monday is the starting date for a $10.4 million project that will stretch from the junction of U.S. 50 at the south end of Carson City to the middle of Minden.

Nevada Department of Transportation spokesman Scott Magruder said it will mean delays until October.

The crews will be replacing the top layer of U.S. 395 between Minden and Carson City. In addition, another southbound lane will be added to the highway between the U.S. 50 junction and Jacks Valley Road just south of Carson City.

Magruder said crews will be working around the clock and face a Nov. 30 deadline to finish. He said work probably will be suspended on weekends, but construction in Minden and near Carson City will be done at night.

Looking on the bright side, Magruder said that once it's finished, U.S. 395 will be a "brand new road."
