No dispute in Lewis win over Botha
With the first overhand right the undisputed heavyweight champion landed, he buckled the knees of Frans Botha, the self-styled White Buffalo of South Africa. Although Botha did not drop, he reeled backward from mid-ring to the ropes like a man hit by a stun gun.

Editorial: Mystery shoppers in limbo
Shortly after the Sun reported July 5 that the city would embark on this program, private investigators complained to the Private Investigator's Licensing Board. They argued that the city's mystery shoppers -- Customer Services Accountability Inc., a program of the University of Georgia's Institute of Government -- first should have to get a license before they could work in Nevada. A 1993 attorney general's opinion supports this view, but the fact is that it is pure nonsense to mandate such a requirement.

Where I Stand -- Mike O'Callaghan: Sending killers home
This isn't a new problem -- my column went back eight years and related the killing of 16-year-old Maria Estella De Lamore, a Bonanza High School student. Her suspected killer, Guillermo Adrian Tena-Casillas, fled to Mexico and was found on a ranch in Chihuahua. To the best of our knowledge he's still there. A more recent criminal suspect is now happily attending college in Mexico City.

Letter: Metro officer is getting raw deal
If the sheriff has such a compelling case of misconduct, he should not feel the need to discuss it in the Sun. Rather, he should await review by an impartial third party. We saw what happened to the alleged bribery charges when reviewed by a judge.
Letter: Doctor adds to virus education
I do agree that people at risk should be tested, especially those who have: ever injected illegal drugs, received a transfusion or an organ transplant before July 1992; been born to an HCV-infected mother, or been a sexual partner (but not other household contact) of a person with HCV.
Letter: It's not negative about getting kids to read
Is Collins such a poor reader that all she can think of is how long it will take to finish the book? When I was 10 I read the Isaac Asimov Foundation Trilogy for the first time -- it was much longer than 752 pages. Should the fact that it is longer than "Moby Dick" have stopped me from reading it?
Editorial: All children need medical treatment
Fortunately a bipartisan effort has been forged to pass legislation to allow working parents to still be eligible for Medicaid. The measure would provide coverage on a sliding scale based on how much the parents earn. Health care issues have been marred by partisanship this year, but it's encouraging to see that at least on one issue Democrats and Republicans have been able to find common ground.

Tainted though it may be, Darva Conger's 3.37-carat "engagement" ring has hit the auction circuit. The monstrous sparkler, a one-of-a-kind design by local jeweler Michael E. Minden, was put up for sale on the buybidwin.com website on July 8. Opening bids were around the $1,000 mark and as of Friday afternoon, the in-the-lead price was $19,502.50.
