Letters: Gamers get tough with senior bingo
Friday, July 14, 2000 | 9:50 a.m.
The Gaming Control Board is to be congratulated for its recent swift action in stamping out penny bingo at a senior apartment complex.
Just because many of the residents need walkers and wheelchairs and have difficulty going to casinos is beside the point. They have a lot of nerve trying to rob casinos of profits that could amount to several hundred dollars a year.
Too bad the board does not show the same zeal in protecting the gaming public. Since bingo became computerized, many locals believe "money balls" and certain games are rigged to hit when the bingo rooms want them to hit. Some games go on for many weeks without a winner, defying mathematics and the law of averages.
It is called "see you tomorrow," ensuring a well-attended session for that game.
Well, I'll just bet that the Gaming Control Board will look into bingo room practices, just as soon as they stop these senior crimes, which must be their first priority.
