Summer dance
Las Vegas Civic Ballet Association and the Las Vegas Leisure Services Department offer afternoon ballet, tap and jazz classes at the Reed Whipple Cultural Center, 821 Las Vegas Blvd. North. Pointers for intermediate and advanced students, beginning and intermediate ballet, beginning tap, and beginning and intermediate jazz are provided. Summer classes are $25 a month. Call 229-2321.
Park movies
Family Film Festival Thursdays continues this week at Jaycee Park with an 8 p.m. showing of the animated version of "The King and I" Thursday. It ends with "Tarzan" July 27. Admission is free. Call 229-6211.
Concepts sought
Interested choreographers have until July 21 to enter proposals for the "Holiday Collage 2000," Nov. 30-Dec. 3 at the Reed Whipple Cultural Center. The event features the Las Vegas Youth Ballet Company and is sponsored by the Las Vegas Cultural and Community Affairs Division and the Las Vegas Civic Ballet Association. Art exhibits
"The Big G Stands for Goodness: Corita Kent's 1960s Pop" will be on display Thursday through Aug. 19 at UNLV's Donna Beam Fine Art Gallery. Gallery hours are 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday and 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday. Admission is free. Call 895-3893.
The Nevada State Museum and Historical Society presents the "Silver Ladies in Golden Splendor," an exhibit of governors' wives from 1864 to today. The exhibit runs through Sept. 4 at 700 Twin Lakes Drive. Also exhibited is "Exploring the Night Sky Over Southern Nevada," by John H. Mowbray, a photographer and astronomer.
