Local students reap scholarship rewards

Three scholarship programs are helping Las Vegas students pay for their education.
Fifteen Las Vegas seniors received scholarships from the Greater Las Vegas McDonald's Owner/Operation Association and the Ronald McDonald House Children's Charities Hispanic American Commitment to Educational Resources.
Each student received $2,000 in the annual program.
Scholarship recipients are Marlyn Granados of Chaparral High School, Yesenia Nunez of Cimarron-Memorial, Paula Ureta of Bishop Gorman, Orfelina Gonzalez and Dina Melgar of Eldorado, Claudia Gamboa of Las Vegas Academy, Debra Mendoza of Las Vegas High, Amelia Larios and Janett Contreras of Palo Verde, Ericka Corona, Fernando Colon, Melissa Rodriguez and Olivia Espinoza of Vo-Tech, Christina Molinar of Mojave High School and Chantal Reyna of Boulder City High School.
Shannon R. Wolff of the Meadows School received a $4,000 scholarship from Washington-based AMVETS, a veterans service organization.
Wolff was among 10 students selected this year from 400 applicants nationwide.
The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Committee awarded three $1,000 college scholarships to Southern Nevada students this year. The recipients are Cari Lewis of Western High School, Latoya Tate of Mojave High and Delvin Tyler of Cheyenne High.
