HOUSTON -- A Houston-based Internet company whose sites contain several links to electronic gambling is being investigated for allegedly illegally promoting gambling.
State attorney general's investigators removed computers and other records from MonetizeMedia.com's office in Houston and homes of company officials in Houston, Bryan and Hempstead, the Houston Chronicle reported Wednesday.
In a lawsuit filed Monday, the company denied any wrongdoing and said it only was providing links to other websites.
"This is a classic instance of criminalizing the messenger for the content of someone else's message," said Monetize attorney Rusty Hardin.
Hardin said Monetize lists and provides links to many websites for consumers and that only one section lists links to gambling sites.
