Letter: Berkley trying to protect our air and water
Wednesday, July 12, 2000 | 9:38 a.m.
Recent studies have shown that the current EPA standard for arsenic in tap water, which has not been updated since World War II, is unsafe. It is scary that the House undercut these important public health protections. On top of that -- delaying the EPA's ability to clean up the air turns a cold shoulder to the 117 million Americans who live in regions with polluted air. As our children head out to enjoy the fresh air this summer, let's make sure that Congress is ready to clean it up.
With the type of growth we are seeing here, we need to ensure our water supply, Lake Mead, is protected from increased runoff, industrial pollution, and overuse. I ask my fellow Nevadans to call Berkley and thank her for voting to remove anti-environmental riders and to continue voting to protect Nevada's water and air in upcoming budget bills.
