Suspect in slaying remains at large, but cops find car

Tuesday, July 11, 2000 | 10:19 a.m.

The getaway car Metro Police suspect a man used to flee a construction area where a worker was killed last week was found Saturday.

A maroon Pontic Firebird with the word "Durango" written across the top of the windshield was found at a home in the northeast part of town, said Lt. Wayne Petersen of Metro's homicide unit.

Detectives watched the car for several hours waiting to see if the suspect would return, but he didn't.

Police are searching for Trinidad Ojeda-Carrasco, 20, in connection with Thursday's slaying of 43-year-old Rey Perez at a construction site near Town Center and Anasazi drives in Summerlin.

"We have the probable cause to arrest (Ojeda-Carrasco) in connection with the homicide," Petersen said. "We are still searching for him. We had information that he may have been trying to flee to Mexico."

Detectives are not sure if Ojeda-Carrasco is still in Las Vegas, Petersen said.

Ojeda-Carrasco was seen in the Firebird before the shooting and seen leaving the area in the car after the shooting, police said.

Perez was shot to death about 7:35 a.m. Thursday at a construction site. Perez apparently had gotten into an argument with another man the day before. The argument evolved into a physical altercation, Petersen said.

Anyone with information in this case is asked to call Metro's homicide unit at 229-3521 or Secret Witness at 385-5555.
