Letter: Kenny wasting time promoting frivolous law
Tuesday, July 11, 2000 | 9:26 a.m.
Why is there a "gentlemen's agreement" by the new-car dealers to be closed on Sundays? Is this by any chance a case of religion infringing on the public's right to have businesses open when the public wants to shop?
Kenny's proposed new law must have more behind it than she claims. People who live near Sahara know that there are car dealerships there. Sahara is a business street, not a residential street. No one can miss this.
I find it interesting that politicians seem to have nothing better to do than to pass useless and ridiculous laws. Do the county commissioners have nothing better to do with their time? Is this what we pay them to do?
Who is running the county while the commissioners are wasting time dreaming up laws that no one needs or wants?
Better yet, how about sending Commissioner Kenny to jail for the six months that she is suggesting that the dealers be penalized. Maybe six months of jail time would give her a chance to think about what is really important.
She would also experience firsthand the penalty that she wants to force on our local car dealers.
Maybe then she would think twice about ever passing another such frivolous law again.
