Firm in Sprint picture looking at VoiceStream

SEATTLE -- Deutsche Telekom AG is said to be pursuing VoiceStream Wireless Corp., which is based in the Seattle area and operates a nationwide wireless communications network in the United States.
The Financial Times of London reported Bonn, Germany-headquartered Deutsche Telekom had offered about $30 billion for VoiceStream. There was no immediate confirmation of the bid.
Deutsche Telekom has also looked at acquiring Sprint Corp, which has a larger mobile-phone operation -- Sprint PCS.
Analysts say Sprint PCS may be put up for auction following the collapse of a bid for Sprint Corp. from WorldCom. They say a Deutsche Telekom purchase of VoiceStream likely would cause it to forget about buying Sprint or Sprint PCS.
