Cholesterol screening planned Wednesday

University Medical Center's Silver Advantage program is offering free cholesterol screenings 9-11 a.m. Wednesday at Nellis Quick Care, 61 N. Nellis Blvd., to Clark County residents 50 years of age and older.

Training program will include certification

The Nevada Restaurant Association and the Nevada Hotel and Motel Association will present ServSafe, a food safety training and certification program for hospitality industry professionals, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Wednesday at the Black Mountain Grill, 11021 S. Eastern Ave.

The featured instructor will be Robert Bosselman of UNLV food and beverage management.

Participants will learn how to prevent food-borne illness, reduce liability risks, lower insurance costs and improve food quality. Food safety certification and re-certification is included.

City of Las Vegas to host workshop

New nonprofit agencies can learn how to register their organizations with the state of Nevada and acquire federal tax-exempt status through a free workshop being offered by the city of Las Vegas 9-11 a.m. Saturday at the city of Las Vegas Business Center, 1951 Stella Lake Drive, one block west of Martin Luther King Boulevard, near Lake Mead Boulevard.

Councilman Lawrence Weekly will host the workshop with the help of the city's Neighborhood Services Department. For more information, call 229-2330.

Science Discovery

A Science Discovery Day sponsored by the Department of Energy's Yucca Mountain Project will be held 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday at the Galleria at Sunset, upper level food court. Kids can create scientific projects to take home. For more information, call the Yucca Mountain Science Center at 295-1312.

Immunizations

Health district immunization clinics are open each week in Southern Nevada. Immunizations are provided without charge to children and young adults under the age of 21 in any of four public health centers and 15 satellite clinics. The following clinics will be open this week, Wednesday through July 18:
