Letter: New dean boon to university
Monday, July 10, 2000 | 9:18 a.m.
There is insufficient space to fully capture his contributions during the past 4 years. However, I will mention a few -- soon a community-based center emphasizing lifetime innovation in fitness for those 50-plus will be opening; research productivity and scholarly contributions have increased significantly in the college; and seven somewhat disparate academic units now function collaboratively and effectively to produce health and human services professionals for our community.
All of these accomplishments have and will continue to directly improve the health and wellness of our community. To view Mike Harter's appointment as merely a "deal" rather than a position of importance, is in my opinion a discredit to the person, and more importantly prejudices the community to the value and contributions that will be realized as a result of his expertise and service.
