The Reno Planning Commission last week unanimously recommended approval of Lighthouse of the Sierra.
The Reno City Council will consider final action Aug. 22.
The 6.2-acre campus on Clear Acre Lane will serve homeless families and women who agree to live there for a year.
Organizers have negotiated cooperative agreements with many key agencies for on-site services ranging from health care to literacy classes.
Twenty-five housing units will be built first and take up about half the site. A second phase will include 21 more units and an administrative building.
Plans call for construction to begin in October and the facility to open in May.
Other Lighthouses are slated for Las Vegas, Elko and possibly Tonopah or Lyon County.
