CARSON CITY -- Consumer advocate Ralph Nader is apparently going to be on the presidential ballot in Nevada this November.
The Green Party, which has nominated him for president, said today it will file the necessary signatures by the 5 p.m. deadline today to qualify for the ballot.
The law requires the party to submit the signatures of 4,098 voters. Party spokesman A. Charles Law said this morning it has more than 7,000 signatures. "That gives us a little buffer," he said.
Law, a Green Party candidate for Congressional District 2 in Northern Nevada, said signatures were still being sought this morning, but the petitions would be filed by the deadline. County clerks would then have to verify that the signers are registered voters.
Citizens First Party, the former Reform Party of Ross Perot, already submitted its petition with a raw count of 10,231 signatures. County clerks have until July 17 to verify those signatures.
