The Douglas County sheriff's office said Westley Andrew Odysseus was arrested shortly before midnight Sunday for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and was placed in a holding cell.
Deputies checked on him every half hour. At 5 a.m. Monday, he was sleeping. At 5:30, he was not breathing.
CPR failed to revive the man and he was pronounced dead at 6 a.m.
An autopsy will be performed by the Washoe County coroner's office.
An inmate has not died in Douglas jails since the construction of the new facilities. The Minden Jail was built in 1982.
