Letter: Fourth of July a reminder of our freedoms
Monday, July 3, 2000 | 8:45 a.m.
July 4, 1776, 224 years ago, a declaration was presented to Congress, where it was received and adopted unanimously. This inspired writing changed the cause of the Revolutionary War from freedom to liberty. This is the greatest document ever conceived for the liberation of mankind.
Another great date to remember, celebrate and give thanks for, is July 8, 2000.
July 8, 1776, Col. John Nixon read the declaration at a public reading. The citizens went wild with joyous acceptance and adopted it as the supreme law of the land, the only law adopted by citizens. They began destroying pictures and properties of King George III, and well, in the words of Samuel Adams, "The people seem to recognize this resolution as though it were a decree promulgated from Heaven." This document does not provide any tyrannical power over any citizen, leaving the citizen at liberty to exercise his free will, mind, and govern his life as he desires.
Let us give thanks.
