Discover Card gives scholarships

Seven Nevada seniors received scholarships this year from the Discover Card Tribute Award Scholarship program for excelling in academics and other achievements.
In addition, a Meadows School student was awarded a scholarship from a national veterans group.
To qualify for the Discover Card award, students were required to maintain a 2.75 grade point average and be accomplished in at least four of five of the following special areas: talents, leadership, obstacles overcome, unique endeavors and community service.
Winners in the gold category were Ely Kim of Advanced Technologies Academy, Jordan Slocum of the Las Vegas Academy and Lisa Kauke of Silverado High School. All three received $2,500 scholarships.
Winners in the silver category were Clifford Peterson of Lincoln County High School and Jennifer Moore of the Community College High School. Both received $1,750 scholarships.
Winners in the bronze category were Kristen Routh of Chaparral High School and Devrin Lee of the Advanced Technologies Academy. Both received $1,250 scholarships.
Students were selected from nearly 7,500 applicants nationwide.
Shannon R. Wolff, a graduate of Meadows School received a $4,000 scholarship from Washington-based AMVETS, the nation's fourth largest veterans service organization.
Wolff was among 10 students selected this year from 400 applicants nationwide. She plans to attend Boston University.
