UNLV students work in food service
More than 100 UNLV students directed the food and beverage service for this year's U.S. Open, marking a decade of university participation in golfing event s at Pebble Beach.
Students worked with celebrity chefs and local charity volunteers directing a full range of activities at the golf course near Monterey, Calif.
They include food ordering, preparation, service and accounting functions for the corporate hospitality tents and public concession stands.
"Participation in the U.S. Open is one of many of the hands-on experiences stud ents receive as majors in hotel administration and culinary arts management at UNLV," said Stuart Mann, dean of the William F. Harrah College of Hotel Admi nistration.
Show planned Saturday at Fiesta
The All Star Double Play Sports Memorabilia Show, sponsored by Sportstraits, will be held 10 a.m.-5:30 a.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Fiesta hotel-casino. There is no entrance fee.
The show will feature an autograph signing by Baseball Hall of Famer and former New York Giant Monte Irvin and former Brooklyn Dodger Gene Hermanski. For more information, call 631-7010.
Cataracts talk
Opthamologist Loren Little will talk about cataracts 11 a.m.-noon Thursday at Desert Springs Hospital Medical Center, 2075 E. Flamingo Road. The program is sponsored by the Senior Advantage program. Call 369-7911.

The Clark County Library is presenting a program on advanced Internet searching 2 p.m. Saturday in the Jewel Box Theatre. This free program is sponsored by the Clark County Library MicroComputer Center. Call 733-1141.
