6 injured in freak accident at carnival
Monday, July 3, 2000 | 8:50 a.m.
A woman was hit in the head Sunday afternoon by a cement block that was used by a vender to hold down the tent. The cement flew into the air along with the canopy.
The woman was listed in serious but stable condition at Washoe Medical Center.
Some other people were treated at the hospital for scrapes and bruises suffered when they were hit by flying debris.
The high winds also toppled booths and damaged merchandise at the carnival.
Some witnesses described the wind as a dust devil, a small whirlwind that raises dust and litter in a narrow common.
