Thursday, Jan. 27, 2000 | 8:41 a.m.
A Las Vegas woman hit a world-record jackpot on a Megabucks dollar progressive slot machine at about 10 p.m.
The amount was $34,955,489.56.
She was described by Ed Rogich, vice president of International Game Technology, makers of Megabucks, as "a casual player who had invested only a small amount of money" before hitting the record jackpot.
Her name and age are being withheld until Thursday afternoon per request of the jackpot winner, who was at the resort with friends and family, Rogich said.
A press conference is planned for Thursday afternoon where at that time she may reveal her identity.
