Three men indicted in a $10 million fraud scheme

Thursday, Jan. 27, 2000 | 11:49 a.m.

Three Las Vegas men were indicted by a federal grand jury Wednesday in connection with a fraud scheme that allegedly netted $10 million over a four-year period.

According to the indictment, Russell Mann, Vincent Andrich and Peter Scholtes conspired with others to obtain money and property by promoting and selling fraudulent wireless cable television systems between 1992 and 1996.

Authorities contend the three men convinced people from throughout the United States -- in phone conversations and through promotional materials -- to invest in cable systems they claimed they were going to start in Provo, Utah, San Luis Obispo, Calif. and Lynchburg, Va.

In all, the men were indicted on eighth counts of conspiracy, mail fraud, aiding and abetting and money laundering.
