Reno man convicted of ninth drunken driving charge

Thursday, Jan. 27, 2000 | 9:38 a.m.

A Washoe County district court jury found Steven Daniel Jackson guilty Tuesday of felony Driving Under the Influence. He also was found guilty of eluding a police officer.

Sentencing is set for March 3.

Jackson was sentenced to four years in the Nevada State Prison after his seventh drunken driving conviction in 1993, prosecutors said.

But he won an early release and was arrested on a misdemeanor DUI charge again in 1996. He was sentenced to six months in the Washoe County Jail in that case, the maximum possible in municipal court because his other convictions were more than seven years prior.

In the most recent case, Jackson led police on a chase through downtown before he crashed into a car and was arrested on Oct. 24, Deputy District Attorney Elliott Sattler said.

Jackson ran at least two stop signs and two red lights. His blood alcohol level was .285, nearly three times the legal limit, Sattler said.
