The 52-mile-long beltway project continues to wrap its way around the Las Vegas Valley with the newest construction under way in the west.
The 1 mile of four-lane roadway between Sahara Avenue and Charleston Boulevard is expected to be completed in early 2001, a spokesman for Clark County Public Works said.
The $18.6 million section is being completed by Las Vegas Paving Co. and was designed by Louis Berger Group and Parsons Transportation Group.
A ceremony will be held Thursday at 11:30 a.m. at Charleston Boulevard and the beltway to mark the construction of another beltway segment and to recognize a partnership between the county and the Howard Hughes Corp.
The Hughes Corp. has dedicated 8 miles of right-of-way with an estimated value of $40 million for the northwest section of the beltway.
