Drug store set for Strip casino site

Walgreen Drug Stores will open a 16,000-square-foot store at the site currently occupied by the Silver City Casino on the Las Vegas Strip.
Luke Brugnara, who purchased the casino last October, said the Deerfield, Ill.-based company signed a multiyear, long-term retail lease. The new drug store is slated to open this spring.
Last fall, Brugnara announced plans to construct a San Francisco-themed hotel-casino on the 8-acre property near the intersection of Convention Center Drive and Las Vegas Boulevard.
"We will be building our new casino up and around their store," said Brugnara.
"I think it's a great complement to the new casino to have a drug store on site. People (staying at the hotel) shouldn't have to pay a ridiculous amount of money if they need to buy shampoo or such."
Brugnara said he expects construction on the new casino to begin within a year, with project completion by 2002.
