Gaming, lodging, leisure summit set for Las Vegas

Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2000 | 11:11 a.m.

Venetian owner Sheldon Adelson and Park Place Entertainment Corp. President Arthur Goldberg will play prominent roles at the American Gaming, Lodging & Leisure Summit in Las Vegas Feb. 9 and 10.

Adelson, keynote speaker for the event expected to draw hundreds of gaming and leisure executives and investors, is scheduled to describe his strategy for developing the Venetian into one of the world's leading convention destinations.

Goldberg, head of gaming's largest company, will receive a Lifetime Achievement Award from conference producers Bear Stearns & Co., Casino Journal Publishing Group and Lionel, Sawyer & Collins, Nevada's biggest law firm.

Bear Stearns Senior Managing Director Jason Ader said sessions scheduled at host resorts Paris Las Vegas and the Venetian should provide attendees insight into the future for major players in the three industries.

"Rather than simply hearing top executives give their views on their companies' prospects," Ader said, "attendees will be treated to panel discussions that usually result in very frank and honest exchanges."

Among speakers scheduled for investment sessions are Gary Goldberg of Priceline.com, Terry Jones of Travelocity, Bobby Baldwin of Mirage Resorts, Danny Wade of MGM Grand Inc., Scott LaPorta of Park Place, Colin Reed of Harrah's Entertainment Inc., T.J. Matthews of Anchor Gaming, Bob Bittman of International Game Technology, Kevin Verner of WMS Industries, Butch Kerzner of Sun International Hotels, Glenn Christenson of Station Casinos, Ellis Landau of Boyd Gaming and several executives from Internet gaming companies.
