Fundraising for statue of “Snowshow” Thompson in motion

The Greater Genoa Business Association is selling a limited number of tax-deductible personalized bricks for a minimum donation of $100 each.
The bricks will become a permanent part of the base of the sculpture, which is scheduled to be in place by the Snowshoe Thompson Days Festival here in June.
The life-size statue will be made by Colorado sculptor Don Budy, who bid for the job.
Over a 20-year period ending in 1876, Thompson was Genoa's winter lifeline to the outside world.
The Norwegian native carried mail and supplies between the community and Placerville, Calif., on the other side of the Sierra twice a month during the winter.
There's nothing in Genoa concerning him except his grave and a museum exhibit.
