Children taken from home compared to “landfill”
Sunday, Jan. 23, 2000 | 8:49 a.m.
Bail was set at $15,000 for Sheila C. Eaken, 34, whose children were taken into protective custody after her arrest Wednesday.
When deputies arrived at the house in response to a neighbor's call, they found a 7-year-old girl supervising two babies who had a fever and appeared ill.
The whereabouts of the other children at the time was unknown.
The inside of the Hot Springs Road house looked "as if a garbage truck had been dumped inside instead of in a landfill," according to a sheriff's report.
When Eaken returned home, she gave excuses for the condition of the house and admitted to leaving the children unsupervised, deputies said.
A Child and Family Services caseworker told deputies that the agency had been involved with Eaken for some time.
