Loans available for disabled

Las Vegas will serve as a test market for a pilot mortgage loan program aimed at assisting people with disabilities in buying homes.
U.S. Bank is sponsoring the new initiative, combining down payment assistance with subsidies and relaxed credit guidelines. The bank is partnering with Las Vegas-based Empire Realty; the real estate firm will help potential home owners locate worthwhile properties.
Bank officials say their work with non-profit organizations in Las Vegas identified the need for such a program.
Under the initiative, each application will be voted on by a volunteer panel; applicants can apply for a maximum loan of $25,000. U.S. Bank officials say that amount is designed to assist with down payments, or provide special construction design to aid the disabled.
