Henderson residents happy with high quality of life

A recent phone survey shows that most Henderson residents are happy with the city and the direction it's going.
The results weren't a surprise for Henderson Mayor Jim Gibson.
"Maintaining neighborhoods and a strong community has always been a priority for us," Gibson said Thursday after his State of the City speech at the Reserve hotel-casino in Henderson.
The $32,000 phone survey was taken by 1,028 residents and was conducted over one month starting in November.
Results showed that 94 percent of those surveyed were happy living in Henderson. High property values, community spirit, well-maintained neighborhoods and high development standards were among the reasons given by residents for their positive responses.
Gibson said the city hopes to maintain its high quality of life, and the goals outlined in its vision statement will help that effort.
Priorities, he said, will include support for the new state college planned for Henderson, meeting the needs of the multi-generational population, strengthening city ties to residents, and encouraging safe neighborhoods. Also included in the priorities are maintaining the quality of the city's planning and development process and expanding economic and employment opportunities.
"The state of the city is excellent," Gibson said. "We just need to keep doing what we are doing now and expand our horizons."
