FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- General Electric Co. said fourth-quarter earnings rose nearly 16 percent, largely on strong demand for its power generation equipment and higher advertising revenue at NBC.
Net income for the October-December period was $3.09 billion, or 93 cents a share. That was a penny above the estimate from analysts surveyed by First Call/Thomson Financial.
Earnings in the final quarter of 1998 were $2.67 billion, or 80 cents a share.
