Group seeks inventive solar energy ideas
Clark County junior high school science students have a chance to compete in a Solar Energy Science Contest.
The contest, sponsored by the Corporation for Solar Technology and Renewable Resources, is looking for innovative ideas for everyday usage of solar technology. Projects must be submitted March 6. The first place winner will receive a $100 savings bond. For more information, call 869-3610 or 799-5312.
Nevada residents dig $455,000 deep
Federal employees in Southern Nevada contributed nearly $455,000 to local and national charities in the past year.
The effort was part of the 1999-2000 Combined Federal Campaign. The campaign is the federal government's giving program that contributes to local, national and international charities.
Local businesses commended
Nine Henderson businesses were awarded the Governor's Tourism Development Award last month.
The award is given annually to new businesses or existing businesses that due to capital investment have created tourism-related jobs.
Those who received awards for 1999 include the Courtyard Inn by Marriott, Hawthorn Inn & Suites, Henderson Convention Center and Visitors Bureau, Hyatt Regency, Lake Las Vegas Resort, Klondike Sunset Casino, Magic Star Casino, and the Revere at Anthem Golf Course.
