Weber leads at Orleans

Pete Weber averaged 231 through 26 games Wednesday and led after the first round of match play at the PBA's Orleans Casino Open.
Weber, of St. Ann, Mo., posted a 4-4 match play record and finished the round with his high game of 257. The bowling Hall of Famer, who won in Las Vegas in 1985, moved up two places into the top spot.
Doug Kent, of Canandaigua, N.Y., was in second place, 40 pins behind Weber. The three-time PBA winner, whose last title came in 1997, was 5-3 in match play and recorded a high score of 249.
Mike Aulby, of Indianapolis, was 5-3 in match play. The Hall of Famer finished his round with high games of 258, 276 and 252 in a bid for his 27th career PBA title.
Michael Haugen Jr., of Mesa, Ariz., was fourth and Ryan Shafer, of Elmira, N.Y., was fifth. Dave Wodka of Henderson, Southern Nevada's lone surviving representative, was in 21st place.
The top 24 qualifiers will return today for the last two rounds of match play. The top eight bowlers will vie for the title and the $25,000 first-place prize Friday.
