Ouster of Lieseke fails

Officials say a bid to oust Nye County Sheriff Wade Lieseke Jr. has failed to generate enough signatures to force a recall election.
Recall organizers needed the signatures of 2,391 county residents. Nye County Clerk Sam Merlino determined there were 1,664 signatures on the petition.
Recall organizers earlier this month submitted a petition that carried more than the required number of signatures. However, some 1,100 signatures were signed "John Doe."
Organizers claimed the "John Doe" signatures were Nye County residents who feared retribution if their real names were used.
